How the numbers are calculated
Every figure above comes from seven inputs and four formulas, computed as you type:
- Payment fee = selling price × fee % + fixed fee. Card processors and platforms charge it this way, on the whole order value.
- Refund allowance = refund rate × selling price. It is the share of orders you expect to repay. The product usually comes back and is resold, so the product cost is not counted as lost; the payment fee often is not returned, and it is already counted as spent.
- Profit = selling price − payment fee − refund allowance − product cost − shipping − ad cost.
- Break-even CAC = profit with the ad cost set to zero: the largest ad spend per order the product survives. Break-even ROAS = selling price ÷ break-even CAC.
The result is per order, not per month. Multiply by the orders you actually ship, and remember that a product can have a healthy margin and still be a bad business if the break-even CAC is below what ads actually cost in your category.
Questions sellers ask
How is the payment fee calculated?
As a percentage of the full selling price plus a fixed amount per order, which is how card and PayPal processing is charged on almost every platform. The percentage applies to the whole order value, including any shipping the buyer paid for, unless you leave the price field as the product-only price.
What is break-even CAC?
The most you can spend to acquire one customer before the order stops making money. If your ads cost more than this per sale, the product loses money at that price no matter how many you sell.
What is break-even ROAS?
Return on ad spend at which you exactly break even: selling price divided by everything else the order costs you. Below this number, your advertising loses money; above it, you are profitable.
